What is Cookies and Cream

Cookies and cream combine the smoothness of a creamy base such as vanilla ice cream or custard with the crunch or chocolatey flavor of crushed cookies. The contrast in texture or the blend of flavors makes it a favorite among dessert lovers.

How is Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Prepared?

Ingredients:

2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)

Instructions:

Mix the Base:

1. In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

2. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.

Chill the Mixture:

Cover the mixture and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until it is chilled. This helps the mixture to freeze faster and more evenly when swirled.

Crush the Cookies:

While the mixture is chilling, take your chocolate sandwich cookies or crush them into small pieces. You can do this by placing the cookies in a ziplock bag and using a rolling pin or a food processor to break them into chunks. Aim for a mix of larger pieces and fine crumbs for mixed texture.

Churn the Ice Cream:

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your ice cream maker.

Add the Cookies:

During the last few minutes of churning, add the crushed cookies to the ice cream maker. Allow the machine to mix the cookies evenly throughout the ice cream.

Freeze the Ice Cream:

Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container. Cover and freeze for at least 2-4 hours, or until the ice cream is firm.

Serve:

Scoop the cookies and cream ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy

Alternative Preparation Methods:

Without an Ice Cream Maker:

If you don’t keep an ice cream maker you can still make cookies or cream ice cream using a no-churn method. Whip 2 cups of heavy cream until stuffy peaks form. In a separate bowl, mix 1 can of improved condensed milk with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Gently fold the whipped cream into the condensed milk mixture until well combined. Stir in the crushed cookies and freeze the mixture in an airtight container for at least 4-6 hours or until firm.
